Good video Dave. One thing I did in the beginning when I was learning to snatch was to visualize that I was standing in front of a wall. If the arc is to big, you will hit the wall with the bell. I think Pavel refers to it as taming the arc.
I think I am gripping too hard on both the up and the down swing but mainly on the down swing. I think one reason for this, is that I am trying to accelerate the weight down. Could you please comment on this?
wonderful post. I’m surprised how many of those a person can and should learn training on their own, although it almost certainly takes longer than learning it from someone else.
thanks for that explanation! that helps me a lot. I don’t mind tearing up my hands as much as I mind doing unsafe moves that could put me out of commission.
A great post Dave. You did a great job explaining and showing it so everyone can understand. I’m pretty good on the way up, but on the way down is when my hands suffer. I’m going to take a close look at the grip issues and “casting” issues because I know I do this too much on the downswing.
Thanks, Dave. A very good piece of advice on the downswing and the “taming the arc” matter, which I think should be more clarified in ETK. For some of us, that’s the most dangerous part of the swing. Most folks have a difficult time with the upper portion and forearm banging. But the downswing can be lethal for people with elbow tendinitis. You, Jordan Vezina and others are doing a good work with your tutorials.
Great video Dave! I think that I can now see my particular problem (gripping the bell too hard, downward phase). I am going to take a good look at my snatch technique and practice it & get it better..

Thank you Dave for the post.
I tried to adjust my moving pattern based on your instruction and it worked. It saved some days of recovery time.
